JLT One-Day Cup Match Official appointments released
Congratulations to Queenslander Donovan Koch and New South Wales Umpire Claire Polosak who make their List A debuts during the upcoming JLT One-Day Cup tournament
Donovan Koch debuts alongside Paul Wilson and Match Referee Peter Marshall at AB Field on Friday 29 September, whilst Polosak also stands with Wilson in her game in Sydney on Sunday 8 October. Both officiated as Third Umpire in the BBL last season, whilst Polosak made her Third Umpire debut in the One-Day Domestic season the season prior.
Former Australian international umpire Bob Parry will also make his debut as a Match Referee.
Born in South Africa, Koch commenced his First-Class playing career at Western Province in 1997 and went on to play 21 First Class matches and a further 20 List A games. He then moved to England in March 2003 where he played for Whitley Hall Cricket Club in the South Yorkshire Cricket League. In 2011 Koch began his umpiring career in the Yorkshire League and by the completion of his first season was appointed to officiate his first ECB Second XI match and Minor Counties fixtures.
In September 2012 Koch and his family arrived in Australia and he commenced umpiring in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition that season. He made his First-Grade debut the following season and was appointed to the Alan Pettigrew Second-Grade Grand Final at the end of the year.
Koch then commenced his Cricket Australia pathway the following season with appointment to Toyota Futures League; WNCL and WT20 fixtures as well as the CA Under 17 National Championships in Tasmania. In 2014/14 he was also appointed to the first of three consecutive appointments to the Queensland Premier Cricket First Grade Final. In December 2015 Koch officiated at the CA Under 19 National Championships in Adelaide and soon after officiated in the inaugural WBBL.
In 2016/17 Koch was appointed to the CA Development Umpire Panel and during the season stood in two Tour Matches including the Cricket Australia XI versus Pakistan at AB Field and the Governor General’s XI featuring the Australian Women and South African Women in Sydney. Amongst five WBBL fixtures, he also made his debut in the Third Umpire chair for a BBL fixture at the SCG before concluding another big season with appointment to the Under 19 International Series in Hobart.
Appointed to the Cricket Australia Development Umpire Panel in the 2015/16 season and member of the ICC Development Panel of Umpires, Claire Polosak heads into the JLT One-Day Cup tournament on the back of appointment at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England throughout June and July. There she stood in four matches and was Reserve Umpire for a further three fixtures.
Last season was busy for Polosak, including appointment to the Women’s Championship fixtures between Australia and South Africa in Canberra and Sydney throughout November. Soon after she was appointed to the WNCL Final in Brisbane between Queensland and New South Wales in December before turning her attention to the WBBL|02. In January Polosak was appointed as TV Umpire in the BBL fixture between Hobart and Adelaide – the first female to officiate at this level.
Polosak travelled to Sri Lanka in February to officiate in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, with her strong performances culminating in an appointment to the Final between India and South Africa. Returning to Australian shores, Polosak finished her long season in Hobart where she was appointed to the Australia versus Pakistan Under 19 men’s series throughout April.
